Lean Supply Chain
A company's supply chain often is one of the last remaining ways to generate
dramatic growth. Growth leaders have lean and effective supply chains, but they
are rare. Research shows that supply chain leaders outperform their competitors
by more than 50% on key metrics such as inventory turnover. In a global
marketplace, managing a supply chain is a much more complex challenge because of
the new and constantly changing
demands of shorter product life cycles, industry consolidation and the need to
take advantage of emerging technologies. Research also shows that most companies
believe they haven't extracted the potential of their supply chains - only 12%
think they are effectively managing their global supply chains. The cost is
huge, resulting in unnecessary spending and missed sales. And, there's a
correlation between poor performing supply chains and lost profits.
Procurement & Sourcing Systems
Procurement and global sourcing can account for more than 50% of overall costs
in many industries, making purchasing a strategic operation with a huge
bottom-line impact. In an era of faster product cycles, global competition and
increased risk of supply-chain disruption, corporate leaders need to know how to
use procurement - now often called supply management - as a competitive
advantage.
Production Planning & control
Production planning and control entails the acquisition and allocation of
limited resources to production activities so as to satisfy customer demand over
a specified time horizon. As such, planning and control problems are inherently
optimization problems, where the objective is to develop a plan that meets
demand at minimum cost or that fills the demand that maximizes profit.
Inventory Management
It must be designed to meet the dictates of market place and support the
company’s Strategic Plan. The many changes in the market demand, new
opportunities due to worldwide marketing, global sourcing of materials and new
manufacturing technology means many companies need to change their Inventory
Management approach and change the process for Inventory Control.
Distribution network/logistics
The term logistics is often misinterpreted to mean transportation. In fact, the
scope of logistics goes well beyond transportation. Logistics forms the system
that ensures the delivery of the product in the entire supply pipeline. This
includes transportation, packaging, storage and handling methods, and
information flow. The impact of logistics in the ability of a company to satisfy
its customers cannot be overstated. All other efforts at modernization within a
company would not bear fruit until the logistics system is carefully designed to
facilitate the smooth and efficient flow of goods in the system.
